Driverless cars, future of mobility & ride share? Phoenix Ladies' Waymo review. Future boom or bust?
This was the type of thing we day dreamed about as children.. an almost real life Jetsons experience. Diane was visiting her niece in Phoenix, AZ recently and filmed her first Waymo experience, which is a driverless, self driving Uber or Lyft service. In this case, a modified Jaguar EV. She walks through her experience on this video. My apologies for the video quality, but I think it’s worth watching if you haven’t seen these before or been in one. Some people I have shown it to didn’t even know they existed or were coming soon to a town near them. Check out the video and story.

Her niece really likes taking them as a single, young female working in a strange area of town versus riding with a stranger. We have all had that annoying Uber or Lyft driver, even outside of the fear factor. For those not wanting peace and quiet, you can put on your own music and I’m sure having AI conversations with the car isn’t far off. Queue the typical, “how’s the ride share business, where’s the best places to eat, or political conversations.” I can hear it now. 😊 And just like a robot doesn’t care what you listen to, you don’t have to tip them either.
With adoption and acceptance, this has impacts to the fleet and ride share industries, amongst others. Ride share companies have tried leasing programs to obtain more drivers, but this option presents an opportunity to own more of the profit pie and also take on the costs and risks that go along with owning and managing your own fleet. It’s both a scary and exciting proposition all at the same time
